Agile EVP: 95% Right ... and not wrong

Updated: Mar 14, 2025

This stuck with me from working on an EVP for a central Government department. They had early entrants into the workplace, and they expected them to come up with good answers, to tricky problems, quickly.

As they put it: If we give you 3 months, you'll get it 99.9% right. If we give you a couple of weeks, it'll be 99%. But - in the world of politics - you may only get a day. Then we know you can only hope to get it 95% right … but it can't be wrong.

The reality is that that answer may very quickly end up in the hands of a minister, being read at a despatch box, or being quoted in an interview. Either way, that's now on the permanent record.

(It’s a big responsibility, that demands a certain kind of confidence - which leans heavily towards a certain kind of candidate, but that's for another day)

Anyway, that's how I see an Agile EVP working.

·        Very quickly: 95% right, and not wrong

Meaning you can start activating your employer brand almost immediately

·        In short order: 99% right

Meaning you can start on bigger ticket items like careers sites or a volume campaign, you can start to confidently align social presence and employee advocacy

·        Not too long after that: 99.9% right

Meaning you now know how to present your EVP for different audiences, and can tailor your message to talk to the needs of the people you most need, in a way in which your competitors aren't.

I think this is the way forward. What do you think? Free no-obligation chats, always available.
